I am based at the University of Liverpool and welcome enquiries from prospective students and postdoctoral researchers interested in evolutionary biology, particularly convergent evolution, toxins, and anti-predator traits.
PhD Students
I am currently able to supervise PhD students at the University of Liverpool. One of the projects I am recruiting for is:
Toxin resistance in insectivorous mammals across ecological and evolutionary scales

Prospective students are encouraged to get in touch to discuss project ideas, funding routes, and application procedures. In the UK, PhD funding is typically secured through doctoral training partnerships (DTPs), university studentships, or external fellowships. Early contact is recommended.
Master’s Students
I am happy to supervise Master’s research projects at the University of Liverpool where they align with the lab’s research. Please contact me to discuss potential projects and availability.
Dendrobatus auratus, Costa Rica.
Postdoctoral Researchers
I welcome applications from postdoctoral researchers interested in developing independent research ideas in areas relevant to the lab. While we do not currently have standing postdoctoral positions, I am happy to support applications for external fellowships.
Relevant schemes include (but are not limited to):
Royal Society / British Academy Newton International Fellowships – These support outstanding early-career researchers from outside the UK to undertake 2-year research projects at a UK host institution, helping build international collaborations and research independence. Applicants must hold (or expect to hold) a PhD and have no more than ~7 years of postdoctoral experience (excluding career breaks). Projects must be developed with a UK host sponsor. Link.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships – Europe-wide fellowships supporting 2–3 year postdoctoral research across participating countries.
Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Postdoctoral Fellowships – International fellowships that support interdisciplinary research and mobility.
If you are interested in applying for a fellowship to work in my lab, please contact me well in advance of the relevant deadline to discuss project ideas, fit with the lab, and application strategy.
